I've been obsessed with making poke bowls at home! I think it's because it is literally one of the easiest meals to put together. For those of you who are unfamiliar with poke bowls, poke bowls are basically sushi unraveled and thrown into a bowl.
Here is a picture if you need a visual:
Often, poke bowls are served with ponzu, soy sauce, and wasabi. However, as of late, I've fallen madly in love with spicy mayo and have been putting it on everything. I love it so much that I had to create a tastier, spicier, and more delicious version of it. I thought I'd share this recipe with you!
Enjoy, Sassy Fam!
TIME: 5 Minutes
YIELDS: 10-12 Servings
Ingredients
1 cup of mayonnaise Note: I use olive oil mayo but you can use vegan mayo, paleo mayo, or regular Hellmans if that suits you!
3-4 tablespoons of siricha sauce (add more or less depending on how spicy you want it)
1 tablespoon of mirin cooking wine
1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
1 tablespoon of liquid aminos or gluten-free tamari
Method
1. Place all of the ingredients into a bowl. Mix until well combined.
2. Serve with your homemade poke bowl, homemade sushi, or seafood salad.
Here is a list of delicious ingredients that will go great in your poke bowls:
Sushi rice or brown rice
Tuna, yellowtail, or meat (cooked) of choice! If you're doing raw fish, be sure to use sushi grade fish only. Feel free to ask your local fish market for high quality sushi grade fish! For every pound of raw fish add the following:
1/4 cup of liquid aminos or gluten-free tamari
1 1/2 teaspoons of sesame oil (if you don't have sesame oil, olive oil works too)
1 tablespoon of diced green onions
1 teaspoon of siracha
A squeeze of lime juice
A dash of salt & pepper
Cooked shrimp
Crab sticks
Crab salad - mix 1 tablespoon of my spicy mayo with 1 cup of shredded crab sticks & 1 tablespoon of diced green onions for an amazing crab salad!
Fresh crisp vegetables - carrots, radishes, tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers. Add a few dashes of vinegar, honey/monkfruit, and Himalayan salt & pepper to give it a bit of pickled sassy flavor!
Fresh chopped spinach
Nori pieces (seaweed)
Cilantro
Green onions
Jalapenos
Avocado Slices
Black sesame seeds
